How long have you lived in Indianapolis? Since 2015 (most recently)

Describe yourself in 100 words or less: Julie joined Raymond James as a fourth generation financial advisor in 2015. She has a special interest in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies, serving on the firm’s Sustainable Investment Advisory Council (SIAC) and is passionate about charitable gift planning. She is a graduate of Indiana University where she earned a B.A. and a M.P.A. in Comparative and International Affairs. Julie and her partner Andrew are passionate outdoorspeople, spending their free time with their bulldog Reuben and tabby cat Imara, as well as traveling, hiking, biking, kayaking, and running through as many municipal, state, and national parks as they can.

How do you give back? I spend a substantial amount of time volunteering for causes that are important to me. Most paramount is my involvement with the United Way of Central Indiana where I’m a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. I served as the community engagement co-chair for the 2019 and 2020 campaign years. I’ve also served as the chair of the Emerging Leaders Steering Committee, a member of the executive compensation committee, Tocqueville Society Council, and as a member of both the basic needs and accreditation workgroups. I am also a member of the John Whittenberger Society at Indiana University, the alumni advisory board for the Indiana Memorial Union as the Vice President for fundraising. I participated in the Keshet Leadership Project with Congregation Beth Shalom and on the congregation’s Creation Care Partners. In the past I volunteered as a Canine Companion with IndyHumane, a mentor with Starfish Initiative, and as a member of the Noble Auxiliary. I am also a member of the Eagle Creek Park Foundation, Newfields, the Children’s Museum, and The Indianapolis Zoo.

Celebrity Doppleganger: Annie Potts in Ghostbusters

Who is a Jew who inspires you? Barbra Streisand

How do you envision the Indianapolis Jewish community in the next 10 years? The next 10 years will provide dynamic, radical inclusive growth for the Indianapolis Jewish community. With significant population growth in central Indiana, we have a bold opportunity to marry Jewish traditions with empathetic outreach to our neighbors to forge a bright future for our community. We have tremendous opportunities to be good stewards of the land for climate resilience, strong advocates for neighbors from underserved backgrounds and neighborhoods, and compassionate caregivers for our elders. I expect that the Jewish community over the next 10 years will continue to expand the marriage of tradition and innovation for our long-term success.

What is one thing you look forward to as we come out of this Pandemic? I am looking forward to seeing far-flung friends whom I haven’t been with in years. A friend’s wedding in October will be the first time I’ll see most of my college roommates in one place since 2018.

What is your proudest accomplishment in the past 10 years? I was asked to serve as the Community Engagement Co-Chair for the United Way of Central Indiana’s annual campaign in the spring of 2019 – the first millennial to be in this role and the youngest co-chair in the 21st century for the organization. Little did we know what was in store for us less than 12 months later. I renewed my commitment to serve in that role for the 2020 campaign cycle as well given the uncertainty we were facing due to the pandemic. During this time, we raised approximately $100,000,000 to directly support our most vulnerable and underserved neighbors throughout Central Indiana, including leveraging a matching gift opportunity of nearly $1,000,000 by cultivating new corporate donor relationships.

Any advice for younger professionals? Do not underestimate the power of the relationships you form, but be sure to pour into others, even if aren’t confident in what you have to offer – you absolutely have more to offer than you may think.

Anything else we should know about you? I am a fourth generation financial advisor on a team with my father. My grandfather, uncle, and great grandfather were also financial advisors.
