Position Description

I.  ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis (JFGI) is the central fundraising and community planning organization for the Indianapolis Jewish Community. With an Annual Campaign of more than $4 million and Endowment assets under management of nearly $100 million, JFGI supports and enriches the lives of Jews locally, nationally, in Israel, and around the world. We also provide funding to many local and regional agencies, several national and overseas partners, and numerous independent programs that provide deeper connection and create Jewish community in Central Indiana. JFGI resides on and manages the operations of a 40-acre campus, and programs funded by the JFGI create life-sustaining and life-changing impact, while inspiring and engaging members of the Indianapolis Jewish Community and surrounding areas.  Think of us as a Jewish “United Way”; we raise funds and then grant to them to organizations to support a vibrant community.

 

II. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Be part of a team that maintains monthly financial transactions including processing of payables, grants and donations.

Primary responsibilities will include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and general ledger reconciliations.  This will include activities such as scanning invoices, entering A/P vouchers, processing checks, preparing grant letters, preparing weekly deposit entries, posting donations, and assisting in various account reconciliations.  Responsibilities will increase along with knowledge and skill.

Because we are a small organization, our projects/programs often require ‘all hands on deck,’ so if variety of responsibilities or projects is important to you, this position has your name on it!

 

IV. JOB QUALIFICAITONS

Educational Background:

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.

Work Experience:

Looking for someone who is interested in learning, previous accounting experience desired.

  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact professionally with colleagues
  • Computer literacy with strong competency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs (esp. Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) preferred
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
  • JFGI will be following CDC Guidelines as it relates to COVID-19 protocols

 

V. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics are representative of an office setting and is usually fast paced with constant stimulation and mobility. This job requires high energy and interaction with staff, leadership, donors, volunteers, and program participants. Meetings and programs may be conducted outside of the office, as well as outside of standard business hours.  Expectations are that staff present a professional appearance and always behave in a professional manner, particularly when interacting with program participants and donors.  Physical demands are primarily limited to operating general office equipment and tasks associated with event and program planning.
