In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene broadcasts its highly acclaimed concert Soul to Soul, a celebration of the shared journey, common struggles and glorious cultural and musical legacy of African Americans and American Jews.

Soul to Soul marks the historical connections between two peoples and two cultures whose destinies have so often intersected. The common struggle against oppression and discrimination, and the ongoing strivings for equal rights and social justice have brought about alliances and close cooperation between the African American and American Jewish communities over many years. This has given us a shared and rich musical legacy that is movingly celebrated in Soul to Soul.

Featuring Broadway veterans and concert artists Elmore James, Tony Perry, Lisa Fishman, Cantor Magda Fishman and special guest Tatiana Wechsler, who is supervising the video production for this historic holiday performance. They are accompanied by a musical ensemble led by the theatre’s artistic director Zalmen Mlotek (who initiated the recent run of Fiddler On the Roof in Yiddish, directed by Joel Grey).

This program is video on demand, available beginning Mon, Jan 18 at 4 pm for approximately one week (register now to create an Eventive account and receive reminder emails). Run time is approximately 90 minutes.
